Cengage Learning was developing educational products that would improve the fluency of students learning the English language. National Geographic provided all the content, which focused on cultures in various regions of the world. The product needed to be designed to appeal to the middle and high school levels. Three activity types were initially designed: fill in the blank, multiple choice, and drag and drop. All the activities were contained in a shell, which include the left navigation and header.
The success of this product lead to Cengage's acquisition of National Geographic School Publishing. The initial product later became a series of products. Today, National Geographic Learning offers this leveled series to students throughout the globe.
The project was later expanded to include a template featuring audio components.
